"Rosie" was gifted to me for my 49th birthday.

Rosie was 12 years old, with unknown mileage when I got her.  I've personally put over 70,000 miles on her in the past 10 years.  She's starting to feel her age and wear a little thin.  She's going to get to take it easy now and be my run around town/dirt (backroads) bike.

Fathers's Day

Television gives the impression the whole town is alien themed, but riding through, it just seemed like any town America.  Maybe we just didn't take the right roads?

We expected a town, and found a big oasis of a truck stop instead.

We made it to the Visitor Center by the skin of our teeth!  Fortuneately the park is open 24/7 so we were able to spend some time walking around.

Beware taking the East Portal Road!  It's only 6 miles down to the river ... at a 16% grade with tight twisties and random gravel in the corners!  We joked that the Million Dollar Highway made the Tail of the Dragon something only flat landers got excited about; and that Mt. Washington NH was just a practice run for the East Portal Road!  Note: We've both ridden the Tail and Mt. Washington as well, so it's a comparison from personal experience.

In the afternoon light this looked like the entrance to faeryland.  This photo was taken the following morning.

The skies are finally beginning to clear!  The scenery is phenomenal!

The storms caught up to us!  We sat out the rain in Lake City, and rode over Slumgullion Pass in the wet!  US 285 from Alamosa CO to Espanola NM was a miserable ride in the dark and the rain.  We didn't even get a picture of the "Entering New Mexico" sign!  Though the weather was better the following day, US 285 to Roswell NM was long, straight, and totally boring!  The alien patch my daughter bought in Roswell was so appropriate, asking "Are We There Yet?"
A major thunder and lightning storm over San Angelo TX, from Stirling City to Brady made us decide to spend a night in LaMesa for safety's sake.

The South West is my favourite part of Colorado.  We had been plagued by overcast skies most of the trip, fortuneately only catching the edges of storms.  We finally found the blue skies I remember once we were south of Grand Junction!

This second leg of our journey took us over Trail Ridge Road and briefly into Utah.

We only journeyed in a little ways, to Dinosaur National Monument.

Another favourite - an old boarding house.  Our room had a tub!

Yes!  There was still snow on the mountains in August!
